Alan Simpson is a writer, advisor and campaigner on energy and climate policy. After 18 years as a Member of Parliament, Alan left to focus on the urgent changes society has to address in relation to energy, democracy and sustainability. He lives, with his family, in an eco-house they converted in Nottingham and is a founder member of the local MOZES energy cooperative. He was the architect of renewable energy tariffs in Labour's Energy Act 2008. Alan is a net exporter of electricity to the Grid.
Alan will be speaking about connecting climate change, energy and democracy within an embrace of "the Unavoidable Revolution".
Alan is working with Welsh and UK Labour on energy independence and has ben working with the Welsh Assembly on an 'an energy independent Wales'. Alan draws heavily on the German experience and there are now over 180 German towns and cities that are taking their energy grids back into social ownership, and selling themselves clean energy rather than dirty.
This is as much about a renewal of democracy as about energy.
Could we see an Energy Indpedendent Otley, Wharfedale or Leeds and how do we get there.
The event takes place at Otley Labour Rooms, Walkergate, Otley, LS21 1HB
